KARACHI: A K-Electric meter reader was critically injured when gunmen opened fire on him in Mahmoodabad on Tuesday, police said.
The employee suffered five to six bullet wounds and was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment. A colleague who was with him escaped without injury. The attackers fled on a motorcycle.
Police have registered an FIR and launched an investigation into the shooting.
In a statement, K-Electric said the worker was on duty when the attack took place and was receiving medical care. The company said it was in contact with his family and would provide support, adding that it was cooperating with law enforcement agencies to investigate the incident and determine a motive.
K-Electric condemned the attack, saying staff safety was a priority and that it would pursue legal action against those responsible.
