New provinces to be created after december 15, Fawad Chaudhry says

LAHORE: Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry said on Tuesday that a constitutional amendment would be introduced by December 15, paving the way for the creation of new provinces.

Speaking to reporters at an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore, Fawad said PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan had been a strong advocate of creating new provinces in the country.

“It is time for the state to resolve its differences with the PTI,” he said.

Commenting on the governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Fawad said the arrangement could not remain in place for more than six months, after which elected representatives would have to assume responsibility for running the province.

He also questioned the PTI leadership’s strategy, saying the party initially expressed willingness to hold talks with the government but later spoke of launching a revolution.

“They do not know what they want to do,” he remarked.

Fawad further claimed that there was no one in the PTI leadership with whom meaningful negotiations could be held, describing the party’s current leadership as immature.

Commenting on Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s concerns, he said the reservations were justified, adding that workers of the party were being killed.
