Pakistan, Saudi Arabia discuss expanding media and cultural ties

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has called for broader cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia in media, culture, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.

He made the remarks during a meeting with Saudi Ambassador Rajeh Tami Albugamy, who visited him in Islamabad.

Tarar said bilateral relations were entering a new phase, with significant potential for collaboration in areas including broadcasting, drama, music, tourism and cultural activities.

He described the Makkah Defence Agreement as a reflection of the close partnership between the two countries in defence matters.

The minister said Pakistan-Saudi ties had endured across generations and were rooted not only in diplomatic and political relations but also in shared history, religious connections and strong public bonds.

Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in information, broadcasting, media and culture, with particular emphasis on promoting Pakistani television dramas in Saudi Arabia.

Tarar said Pakistani dramas showcase family values, Eastern traditions and Islamic culture. He also suggested exchanging delegations of writers, poets, artists, musicians, media professionals and digital content creators to deepen cultural understanding.

Highlighting Pakistan’s tourism potential, the minister said the country offered diverse natural landscapes and historical attractions. He invited Saudi journalists, tourists and digital influencers to explore destinations across Pakistan.

He also stressed the importance of joint efforts to tackle misinformation and negative propaganda, improve fact-checking arrangements and develop content highlighting the countries’ shared cultural values.

To advance the proposed initiatives, Tarar suggested setting up a joint working group comprising designated focal persons and technical teams from both countries.

The Saudi ambassador said the longstanding brotherly relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, built on mutual trust and respect and reinforced by political and military cooperation, was a matter of pride.
