Peshawer: Peshawer High Court restrained Election commission from issuing final verdict on PTI intra-party election
The Peshawar High Court has prohibited the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) from delivering a conclusive judgment on the intra-party election of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) while allowing the proceedings to continue.
In a session held at the Peshawar High Court regarding a petition filed by the PTI against the Election Commission of Pakistan’s notice on the intra-party election, Justices S. M. Atiq Shah and Shakeel Ahmed presided over the hearing.
The lawyer representing the petitioner argued that the election commission lacked the authority to adjudicate on intra-party elections; its jurisdiction should only extend to revoking the party’s electoral symbol, the bat.
Justice Shah questioned the basis of this assertion, prompting Qazi Anwar Advocate to inform the court that the election commission was overstepping its jurisdiction. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan stated that individuals challenging the elections were not affiliated with the party.
Following the initial arguments, the court issued an order restraining the Election Commission of Pakistan from reaching a final decision on the PTI intra-party election case. The court emphasized that the ECP should refrain from issuing a conclusive order until a ruling is made on the application.
The court adjourned the hearing until December 19.
