KARACHI: Two more individuals who sustained burn injuries in a cylinder explosion at the Sindh Government Hospital passed away, raising the death toll from the blaze to four.
27-year-old Mahesh and 38-year-old Abdul Haseeb were recently died. Mahesh, employed as a sanitary worker at the hospital, sustained burns covering 62 per cent of his body. Also, Abdul Haseeb, 38 years old and the son of Abdul Ghaffar, endured 89 per cent burns during the same incident and succumbed to his injuries on Friday.
Asif Irfan, a 42-year-old technician at the ICU and a father of two, had also passed away on Thursday. Two victims are still under treatment at the hospital.
Initial reports suggested that the fire was caused by a short circuit. An investigation, however, was currently underway to ascertain the exact cause of the fire and fix responsibility for the incident.
Sources said that all the victims were moved to Patel Hospital from the burns unit of the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) a day after the incident on their families’ insistence, indicating a lack of public trust in the government-run facilities for burn victims.
