LAHORE: The move to put Nawaz Sharif’s photo on Kisan card has been challenged in the Lahore High Court.
A citizen challenged in the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Saturday the printing of the picture of the three-time former premier and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif on the government of Punjab’s Nawaz Sharif Kisan Card.
Making the Punjab government, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Nawaz Sharif respondents, Mashkoor Hussain sought the court’s order to declare the printing of the former prime minister’s picture on the card null and void.
The applicant Mashkoor Hussain in his plea stated that CM Maryam Nawaz has okayed to emboss the picture of Nawaz Sharif on a Kisan Card but the public funds cannot be used for personal publicity.
Using the national treasury for personal publicity is a violation of the Supreme Court’s verdict, the plea stated and urged the court to stay the decision until a decision on the plea.
He also requested the court to order Nawaz to pay for the government funds spent on the cards from his own pocket.
The same petitioner had also requested the Lahore High Court (LHC) a round 10 days ago to prohibit former prime minister Nawaz Sharif from presiding over Punjab cabinet’s administrative meetings and issuing directives to cabinet members and state officials despite the fact that he held no official position either in the provincial or the federal government.
Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz gave approval to the ‘Nawaz Sharif Kisan Card Project’ aimed at uplifting the agriculture sector and socio-economic condition of farmers in the province.
The chief minister said that under the Kisan card 500,000 small farmers would be given loans on easy terms. This loan will be worth Rs150 billion and given in one year.
She also said that farmers would also be given loans of Rs30,000 for per acre land for purchase of seeds, fertilizers and pesticides. Under the Nawaz Sharif Kisan Card different types of subsidies would also be provided to farmers.
