Islamabad (August 30, 2017): The meeting of National Security Committee started at Prime Minister House, which is being chaired by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

The Committee is mulling over US’s new policy for Afghanistan and South Asia and Pakistan response to it.

The meeting is being attended by top military leadership including Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Air Chief Air Marshal Sohail Amaan and Naval Chief Admiral Zakaullah, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and intelligence chiefs.

Federal Minister Interior Ahsan Iqbal, Foreign Minister Khwaja Asif, Defence Minister Khurram Dastgir, Advisor to PM on National Security Lt. Gen (retd) Nasir Janjua and others will attend the meeting, which will devise Pakistan policy over the US’s President allegations against Pakistan.

This is second meeting of the top military and civilian leadership following Trump speech, as soon after the unveiling of new US policy the committee had already met and unanimously rejected the allegations leveled against Pakistan by the US President.

Yesterday, the prime minister also chaired the federal cabinet meeting over the issue.

During last week’s meeting of the NSC, it was decided to contact other friendly countries and take all stakeholders into confidence regarding Pakistan’s reservations over the new US policy.

Prime Minister in an interview with a foreign media outlet had harshly criticized Trump’s Afghan policy, saying that it is doomed to fail.
