Five family members found dead inside Karachi home

KARACHI: Five members of a family, including two young girls, were found dead inside a house in a private housing society in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Hadeed area, rescue officials said on Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as Shahzaib, 40, his wife Saba, 40, their daughters Arya and Aizal, aged four and five, respectively, and Shahzaib’s 18-year-old sister, Shumaila.

According to police, a note recovered from the scene referred to financial difficulties. Investigators said Shahzaib was unemployed and had been struggling with financial problems. He had reportedly been meeting his expenses by selling property inherited from his late father.

Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho took notice of the incident and sought a detailed report from the concerned deputy inspector general (DIG).

The provincial police chief directed investigators to conduct a fair and transparent probe into all aspects of the case to establish the circumstances surrounding the five deaths.

He also ordered the collection of forensic evidence from the scene, completion of legal formalities and investigation into any possible criminal involvement. Officials were instructed to keep the IG informed about developments in the case and ensure that the inquiry remained evidence-based.

The incident follows a similar case in Karachi’s Ahsanabad area, within the SITE neighbourhood, where five bodies were recovered from a flat weeks earlier.

The victims in that case were a man, his wife and their three children. Police had suspected suicide, noting that the bodies appeared to have been lying there for several days.

The man, identified as Dr Umar, was reportedly unemployed due to an illness and had been facing financial hardship linked to his condition.
