Four Pakistani farm workers killed in fire in Italy

Rome: Italian authorities have apprehended two Pakistani nationals in connection with the death of four Pakistani farm workers whose charred bodies were discovered inside a burned-out minivan in southern Italy, according to Corriere della Sera.

The destroyed vehicle was located at a fuel station near the village of Amendolara, situated in a large agricultural zone within Calabria.

CCTV footage from the petrol station reportedly captured two individuals blocking the van’s doors from the outside and pouring liquid into the vehicle before setting it ablaze. The images also showed the suspects fleeing the scene as the fire ignited.

Emergency services recovered the bodies after extinguishing the flames.

Local police chief Antonio Borelli confirmed to Corriere that the incident was a clear case of murder, and authorities are working to establish the full details.

The newspaper highlighted that there have been around 14 incidents of arson involving vehicles carrying Pakistani workers in recent months in this region, where tensions persist among migrants regarding farm work, residency permits, and housing arrangements.
