Kuwait suspends airport operations after alleged Iranian drone attack

KUWAIT CITY: Kuwaiti authorities said on Wednesday that an Iranian drone strike targeted a passenger terminal at Kuwait International Airport, injuring several people and prompting the suspension of airport operations.

Brigadier General Saud Abdulaziz Al-Atwan, spokesperson for Kuwait’s Ministry of Defence, condemned the incident as a “criminal act of Iranian aggression,” stating that the attack caused substantial damage to airport infrastructure and left multiple individuals wounded.

In a statement shared on social media, Al-Atwan said the injured had been treated but did not disclose the exact number of casualties.

According to Kuwait’s official news agency, civil aviation officials halted air traffic and redirected incoming flights to other airports after Terminal One was struck, resulting in both casualties and property damage.

Kuwait, a wealthy Gulf state and close ally of the United States, has faced Iranian attacks since Washington and Israel launched strikes against Iran in late February that killed several senior Iranian leaders.

Iran has alleged that Kuwait permitted US military forces to use its territory as a base for operations against Tehran, an accusation Kuwaiti authorities have denied.
