ISLAMABAD: The Chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Lt General (Retired) Nazir Ahmed, announced on Wednesday that Interpol has issued Red Notices against property magnate Malik Riaz and his son, Ali Riaz.
Ahmed explained that a formal request was made by Pakistani authorities to Interpol to locate and potentially arrest the individuals for extradition or legal proceedings. He stated that NAB is preparing a team to facilitate the extradition process for both Riaz and his son.
During a briefing on NAB’s recent performance, the chairman highlighted a significant increase in recoveries, revealing that the bureau recovered a record Rs 2.962 trillion in the first quarter of 2026, marking a 33-fold rise compared to the same period last year.
He also detailed the recovery of government land: NAB Karachi and Sukkur recovered 54,387 acres valued at Rs 2.89 trillion, while NAB Lahore and Multan recovered 4,034 acres worth Rs 23.33 billion. Balochistan’s NAB recovered 51,577 acres valued at Rs 36.54 billion.
In addition, NAB returned Rs 1.78 billion to 6,475 victims affected by fraud cases. The bureau also made direct recoveries amounting to Rs 11.085 billion through plea bargains and fines.
Ahmed further disclosed that in Punjab, 900,000 acres of government land worth Rs 4.37 trillion have been identified, while in Sindh, assets worth Rs 10.96 trillion have been pinpointed. Task forces are actively working to recover these lands, with plans to prevent misuse and deposit assets into the national treasury.
