QUETTA: Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti praised Abdul Razzaq Tarakai as a “valuable member of society” for his quick response in assisting a female doctor after an acid assault at Quetta’s Civil Hospital.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Balochistan CM shared a photo of Abdul Razzaq Tarakai, an employee at the hospital, and announced that he would be honored with a civil award for his bravery.
The incident occurred on Saturday when Dr. Mahnoor Nisar, a doctor working at the hospital, was attacked with acid. She was initially moved to a private hospital in Quetta but was later transferred to Karachi for specialized treatment. Authorities confirmed that the suspect involved in the attack was killed during an encounter with police.
Hospital sources reported that the victim is now in stable condition. Medical teams, including reconstructive surgeons and eye specialists, have completed her assessment. She suffered burns covering 13% of her body, affecting her face, abdomen, legs, and right hand. Her eyesight remains unaffected, and her condition is not considered life-threatening.
Chief Minister Bugti lauded Tarakai’s act of heroism, describing him as a “treasured asset to society” for risking his safety to help the injured doctor. He emphasized that individuals who serve others selflessly exemplify the highest ideals of humanity.
A civil award will be bestowed upon Abdul Razzaq Tarakai, who displayed exceptional valor, compassion, and commitment during the tragic incident. In his statement, CM Bugti highlighted the importance of recognizing and supporting those who dedicate themselves to saving lives and serving humanity.
Earlier, the CM personally spoke with Tarakai over the phone, commending his courage, even as he sustained burns during the rescue. He assured Tarakai that the Balochistan government would cover all medical expenses and would arrange treatment at top medical facilities within the country if necessary.
