ISLAMABAD: In a significant diplomatic engagement, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met with President Asif Ali Zardari in Islamabad on Tuesday, emphasizing Iran’s appreciation for Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions and foster regional peace.
President Pezeshkian, who arrived in Islamabad earlier in the day on a one-day visit following mediated talks between Tehran and Washington in Switzerland, praised Pakistan’s constructive role in facilitating Iran-US dialogue. He reaffirmed Tehran’s dedication to deepening bilateral ties and enhancing regional stability.
During the discussions at the Presidential Palace, the two leaders explored a range of topics including regional security, connectivity, economic cooperation, and mutual interests. The Iranian delegation included Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Chief of the President’s Office Mohsen Haji Mirzaei, Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, and Iranian Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghaddam. On the Pakistani side, senior officials such as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, and other key figures participated.
President Zardari warmly welcomed Iran’s first official visit following recent regional tensions, highlighting the enduring brotherly ties between the two nations. He expressed hope that ongoing negotiations, including the recent Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, would lead to lasting peace and stability in the region.
The Pakistani leader reiterated Islamabad’s unwavering support for Iran’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity. He emphasized Pakistan’s consistent stance against unilateral initiatives and its advocacy for dialogue and diplomacy as the pathways to resolve regional and global issues.
Additionally, President Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining unity within the Muslim Ummah and strengthening fraternal relations with Gulf countries. He also extended condolences on the martyrdom of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Hosseini Khamenei, affirming Pakistan’s participation in his funeral rites.
Expressing gratitude for Pakistan’s positive role, President Pezeshkian appreciated Islamabad’s support during challenging times and underscored Iran’s desire to expand cooperation across political, economic, and security domains. He highlighted the importance of the relationship with Pakistan and looked forward to further strengthening bilateral ties.
President Zardari requested Pezeshkian to convey his respectful regards to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, reinforcing the warmth and mutual respect that define their bilateral relationship.
