Pakistan temporarily closes Airspace over Karachi and Lahore

KARACHI: Pakistan’s aviation authorities have announced the temporary closure of select sections within the Karachi and Lahore Flight Information Regions (FIRs) for a duration of one month, ARY News reported today.

The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) issued a new Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) indicating that specific airspace segments in both cities will be inaccessible from May 1 to May 31, 2025, daily from 4:00 AM to 8:00 AM.

Officials cited security concerns as the primary reason behind this decision. Despite the restrictions, commercial flights will continue operating using alternative routes, with air traffic controllers providing guidance to ensure safety and efficiency.

Authorities reassured the public that flight schedules are expected to remain largely unaffected and that air travel in the region will proceed smoothly during this period.
