ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Petrol Pump Owners Association has voiced strong opposition to the government’s proposed plan to revise fuel prices on a daily basis.
In a statement, the association described the idea of daily price adjustments as ‘unacceptable’ and expressed concerns over its potential impact. The body pointed out that the current weekly revision system has already placed considerable strain on petrol station operations. “Implementing daily price changes would further complicate stock management and disrupt financial planning,” they said.
The petrol pump owners also criticized the lack of prior consultation on the new pricing mechanism, emphasizing that stakeholders should be involved in key decision-making processes. “Engaging with the industry before implementing such policies is essential,” the association stressed.
They urged the government to reconsider the move and called for a more practical and balanced policy that involves the input of petrol station owners. The association recommended that petroleum prices be revised, at minimum, on a monthly basis instead of daily.
The owners warned that if their concerns are not addressed, they may take further action. Reports indicate that the government is indeed exploring the possibility of daily fuel price adjustments, according to official sources.
Currently, fuel prices are changed weekly. Previously, adjustments were made on a fortnightly basis, and before that, monthly revisions were the norm.
