ISLAMABAD: The federal government has issued directives to all electricity distribution companies to ensure an unbroken power supply nationwide throughout Muharram, with particular focus on the 9th and 10th days of the Islamic month.
Under the guidance of Federal Energy Minister Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari, comprehensive standard operating procedures have been distributed to all power distribution firms to guarantee continuous electricity availability and maintain heightened vigilance during this period.
Minister Leghari emphasized the critical need for reliable power during religious events and processions, instructing authorities to implement all necessary precautions to prevent outages that could disrupt Muharram observances.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Home Department has declared Section 144 across the province from June 17 to June 26 as part of increased security preparations for Muharram. The restrictions include a complete ban on displaying weapons and explosives in public areas, along with prohibitions on hate speech and slogans that could incite sectarian conflict.
Additional security measures involve restricting rooftop trench digging along procession routes and banning the storage of stones, bricks, bottles, or other dangerous materials on rooftops of buildings along those routes. Pillion riding has also been prohibited during this period, with only police personnel exempted from this restriction.
Most restrictions are set to be enforced from the beginning of Muharram, while the ban on pillion riding will start from the ninth day of the month, aiming to ensure safety and security during the religious period.
