Renown television, stage actor and comedian Kodu passes away

LAHORE: Renown television, stage actor and comedian Javed Kodu passed away after a prolonged illness, his family announced on Sunday.

Kodu, as per his family, had been ill for a long time and was undergoing treatment at the General Hospital.

Javed Kodo’s funeral prayers will be offered today (Sunday) at 1:30 pm in the marquee located behind his residence in Singhpura. Burial will be in Singhpura graveyard.

The actor, who gained fame due to his short stature, worked in several films and dramas, including stage shows.

The comedian entertained audiences with his humor and performances for over 45 years.

He started his career in 1981 with the stage play ‘Sauday Baaz’ and went on to work in over 150 productions including Punjabi and Urdu films, stage dramas, and television shows.

He gained popularity not only for his impeccable comic timing but also for his distinctive short stature, which became a hallmark of his on-stage persona.

His notable work includes famous dramas such as Ainak Wala Jinn, Ashiana and others.

The television drama ‘Aashiyana’ remains fondly remembered by viewers. Kodu’s contributions to both stage and screen brought joy to countless fans, and his death marks the end of an era for Pakistani comedy.

Colleagues and fans alike are mourning the loss of a performer who was as dedicated to his craft as he was beloved by the public.

He was married and is survived by his son Salman Kodu, as well as another son, Shera, who has followed in his father’s footsteps and is a well-known performer on Mazaaq Raat.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed grief over the passing of the incredible artist. He said that Kodu’s death had created a void in the media industry that may never be filled.

Extending his condolences, the premier said all his sympathies were with the late artist’s family during this difficult time.
