Sana Mir becomes first Pakistani woman inducted in ICC Hall of Fame

LONDON: In a historic achievement, Sana Mir, the legendary former captain of Pakistan’s women’s cricket team, has been officially inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame for 2025. This milestone marks her as the first Pakistani woman to receive this prestigious honor and the eighth cricketer from Pakistan to be recognized in the Hall of Fame.

The announcement was made during a distinguished ceremony in London, just prior to the ICC World Test Championship final. Ian Bishop, renowned West Indian cricketer and ICC ambassador, revealed Sana Mir’s inclusion amid applause from the cricket community.

Sana Mir joins an elite group of inductees this year, which includes cricket icons such as Australia’s Matthew Hayden, South Africa’s Hashim Amla and Graeme Smith, India’s MS Dhoni, New Zealand’s Daniel Vettori, and England’s Sarah Taylor.

Expressing her emotions, Sana Mir said, “Being inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame is a profound honor. It’s a testament to the hard work, dedication, and sacrifices made throughout my career. From playing cricket on the streets of Pakistan to reaching this global recognition, it’s been a remarkable journey.”

On the other side, Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, congratulated Sana Mir on her induction into the ICC Hall of Fame and stated that Sana Mir has elevated the green crescent flag and brought honor to the country.

In a statement, the PCB Chairman said, “Congratulations, Sana Mir. Pakistan’s daughter has enhanced the pride of our homeland, raising the green flag high and illuminating Pakistan’s name.”

Mohsin Naqvi further mentioned that, Sana Mir is an asset to Pakistan cricket and a role model for women cricketers. He added that receiving the Hall of Fame honor is a milestone in the history of Pakistan women’s cricket. Sana Mir dreamed big, worked hard, and made history.
