RAWALPINDI: On Thursday, two separate incidents in South Waziristan resulted in the death of three children and injuries to numerous civilians, according to security officials.
The first incident involved an explosion near a residential area in the Gawa Khwa region of South Waziristan. Authorities indicated that the blast was caused by “Fitna al Khawarij” militants who placed explosive-filled cylinders close to a local house in a nearby settlement. Tragically, three young children aged eight, seven, and 15 lost their lives in the blast, while several others sustained injuries. The injured were swiftly transported to the District Headquarters Hospital in Wana.
Locals expressed profound grief and outrage over the attack, condemning it as another example of terrorists targeting unarmed civilians, especially children and women. Security officials reiterated that “Khawarij” elements have historically continued to target innocent communities in South Waziristan and neighbouring regions, shedding blood to pursue their destructive aims. Despite these heinous acts, they emphasized that the resilience and morale of the local population remain strong.
In a separate event in Angoor Adda, Afghan Taliban forces launched mortar shells at a market close to the Durand Line, resulting in ten injuries. Three shells struck the Ghazi Rehman Hotel and adjacent shops, causing critical injuries to the victims. Emergency responders promptly evacuated the wounded to the district hospital, where their condition remains serious.
The security authorities condemned the attack, describing it as a violation of international laws and human rights. They warned that such aggression by the Afghan Taliban poses a significant threat to regional peace and stability. The officials accused the Taliban and allied terrorist groups of deliberately targeting civilians to fulfill their malicious objectives.
