WASHINGTON: Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha announced a “productive conversation” with U.S. counterpart Marco Rubio on Friday, centering on an impending bilateral meeting scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia.
“Ukraine seeks an end to the conflict, emphasizing that strong US leadership is crucial for securing enduring peace. Additionally, we explored avenues to enhance our bilateral collaboration,” Sybiha stated on X.
U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, announced on Thursday that he is engaged in talks with Ukraine to establish a framework aimed at securing a peace agreement and bringing an end to the three-year conflict with Russia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said intensive contacts were taking place with U.S. officials all day.
“Today the most intensive work has been going on all day with President Trump’s team at different levels – many calls,” Zelenskiy said in his nightly video address.
“The topic is clear – peace as quickly as possible, the most reliable security possible. Ukraine is committed to being as constructive as possible.”
