The day was proclaimed at the 40th session of UNESCO’s General Conference in 2019 and it aims at promoting the development, diffusion and enjoyment of art.
The special occasion is marked annually to acknowledge the contributions of artists, emphasising the importance of art in our lives.
As the name suggests, the day is dedicated to promoting the development of art and the freedom to create.
