PTA mandated VPN Registration for bank, software houses and freelancers to boost data Security.

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has made VPN registration mandatory for banks, embassies, IT firms, software houses, and freelancers to enhance data security and ensure uninterrupted internet access.

As per detail, a consultation meeting was held in Islamabad, gathering representatives from various government bodies, including the Ministry of IT, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the State Bank of Pakistan. Key industry figures, including the CEO of the Pakistan Software Export Board, the chairman of the Pakistan Software House Association (Pasha), and the CEO of the Pakistan Freelancers Association, also participated.

The PTA emphasized the critical role of VPN registration in safeguarding sensitive data and ensuring continuous, reliable internet connectivity. During the meeting, stakeholders discussed ways to refine the registration process to better accommodate businesses while maintaining a secure online environment.

Despite support for the initiative, Pasha raised concerns about the implementation timeline, particularly regarding unregistered VPNs. The association called for an extension to allow more time for consultation and compliance, ensuring that all stakeholders can meet the new requirements without disrupting operations.

The step taken by the PTA is part of its ongoing efforts to bolster cybersecurity and streamline the digital landscape in Pakistan, ensuring a more secure and efficient internet environment for businesses and individuals alike.
