Supreme Court concludes the hearing on Super Tax Case

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court’s Constitutional Bench has concluded the hearing on the high-profile Super Tax case concerning Section 4B of the Income Tax Ordinance.

During the proceedings, arguments presented by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) lawyers on the legal implications of Section 4B were completed.

Justice Aminuddin Khan engaged in a discussion with Makhdoom Ali Khan, inviting him to respond to the arguments related to Section 4B. Renowned lawyer Dr. Shahnawaz and other legal representatives also presented their detailed arguments, which Makhdoom Ali Khan was tasked to submit in written form.

Additional Attorney General Aamer Rehman was requested to bring three key judgments of the court pertaining to Section 4B. These judgments highlighted that a special purpose tax can be imposed in specific cases, and Rehman assured the court he would submit the written copies of these rulings.

The case has been adjourned until May 22, with Makhdoom Ali Khan scheduled to commence the company’s response on Thursday.

The court continues to scrutinize the legality and scope of the Super Tax provisions under the Income Tax Ordinance.
