CAIRO: Hamas, the Palestinian Islamist organization, announced that Iran—its key strategic ally—is “paying the price” for backing militant groups in Gaza in their ongoing conflict with Israel. This statement follows recent large-scale Israeli attacks targeting Iran.
Hamas has consistently expressed gratitude for Iran’s military and financial assistance throughout its long-standing resistance against Israel, including during the current escalation that began in October 2023.
“Iran is today paying the price for its steadfast support of Palestine and its resistance, as well as its independent national decisions,” Hamas stated.
Meanwhile, Tehran has promised retaliation after Israel launched strikes on Iranian military and nuclear sites, which reportedly killed several top commanders. Israel also reported efforts to intercept approximately 100 drones launched by Iran, though none reached Israeli territory.
Hamas’s armed wing spokesperson, Abu Ubaida, reaffirmed support for Iran, stating on Telegram that the group stands united with Iran against Israel. He warned Israel against underestimating the resilience of resistance fronts, asserting that Israel’s actions only bring it closer to its downfall.
