LAHORE: In a somber moment at her burial, ,Mohammad Ali, the uncle of the late actress and model Humaira Ashgar Ali, shared that her parents disapproved of her choice to pursue a career in the entertainment industry, despite their concerns, Humaira continued her work driven by her passion and found happiness in her art.
Speaking to media representatives at the cemetery on Friday, Ali explained that while Humaira maintained regular phone contact, her family was unaware of her current residence in Karachi, where she had relocated in 2018. “She would visit us whenever she came to Lahore,” he stated. “Humaira loved painting and was satisfied with her work, but her parents were not supportive of her entering showbiz.”
When questioned about the lack of contact over the past 8 to 10 months, Ali clarified that the family’s connection had not been severed, but they simply did not know her whereabouts. “We had no idea where she was living,” he added.
On why no police report was filed after her phone was disconnected, Ali explained, “We did not contact the police. The landlord should have been aware and reached out, especially since rental agreements are shared with both parties.”Asked about the family’s responsibility to check on her, Ali responded, “No parent would abandon their child. Humaira told us she was happy, and her parents always told her, ‘If you’re happy, then we’re happy too.’”
Hours before these remarks, the post-mortem report from Police Surgeon Summaiya Syed revealed that Humaira’s body, found earlier this week in her Karachi flat, was severely decomposed and in an advanced state of decay. Initial findings suggested she had passed away approximately 8 to 10 months ago. The body was unrecognizable and exhibited no visible fractures, despite the extensive decomposition. Toxicology and DNA tests are ongoing to determine the cause of death.
Humaira was discovered after law enforcement officials, responding to a court-ordered eviction, forced entry into her apartment. She had been living alone in the residence for the past seven years. Her career included appearances on the reality show “Tamasha Ghar” and a role in the film “Jalaibee.”
Her death has deeply affected the entertainment community, with many colleagues expressing grief on social media and calling for increased awareness about the challenges faced by those living alone. Her passing closely followed the recent death of veteran actress Ayesha Khan, whose body was also found in her Karachi flat under similar circumstances
