HANGU: At least four militants affiliated with the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), referred to by officials as Khawarjis, were neutralized during a joint operation conducted by police and Tal Scouts in Hangu’s Doaba area on Saturday.
The operation, launched early in the morning based on credible intelligence, targeted suspected militant strongholds in Zargiri, Shinaori, and surrounding localities.
During the raid, an exchange of gunfire occurred, resulting in injuries to District Police Officer (DPO) Khalid Khan and Doaba’s Station House Officer (SHO) Nabi Khan. Both officers are currently receiving treatment at a nearby medical facility and are reported to be in stable condition.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Amjad Khan, the security personnel came under fire while attempting to intercept the suspects. “Four Khawarjis were killed in the firefight. The operation is still underway, and clearance efforts are being carried out to secure the area,” he confirmed.
Officials noted that the slain militants were allegedly linked to recent violent incidents in the region, fueling fears of an uptick in TTP-related activity in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Additional forces have been deployed to maintain control and deter any retaliatory actions from militant factions.
