Five Independent Senators from KP officially join PTI, boosting Party’s Senate Tally to 21

ISLAMABAD: Five of the six senators elected as independents with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) support from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) have formally aligned themselves with the party, increasing PTI’s total representation in the Senate to 21 members.

Party representatives confirmed that Senators Mirza Muhammad Afridi, Azam Khan Swati, Faisal Javed, Noor-ul-Haq Qadri, and Rubina Naz have submitted official letters affirming their decision to join PTI. These declarations were presented to PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and subsequently sent to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for formal documentation.

One senator, Murad Saeed, has not yet filed his declaration and remains independent at this time.

AbbTakk News has acquired copies of the declarations from Mirza Afridi and Azam Swati. In their statements, both senators confirmed their election on July 21, 2025, as independents and declared their voluntary affiliation with PTI, clarifying they were not previously associated with any other political group.

In the Senate elections held on July 21, Murad Saeed, Faisal Javed, Mirza Afridi, and Noor-ul-Haq Qadri secured general seats, while Azam Swati and Rubina Naz won in the technocrat and women’s reserved categories, respectively.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) claimed two Senate seats from KP in the same cycle—Talha Mehmood on a general seat and Rubina Khalid on a reserved seat for women.

From other parties, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) secured one general seat through Niaz Ahmad, while Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) had two successful candidates: Dilawar Khan (technocrat seat) and Atta ul Haq (general seat).
