PESHAWAR: Senator Azam Swati of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was prevented from departing for Dubai at Bacha Khan International Airport in Peshawar on Wednesday morning, even though he held court-permitted clearance to leave the country.
Swati was due to board his flight to Dubai; however, airport authorities barred him from doing so. In response, his legal team has initiated a contempt of court petition before the Peshawar High Court, challenging the actions of those responsible.
Advocate Ali Azeem Afridi, representing Swati, stated that the Peshawar High Court had ordered the removal of Swati’s name from the Exit Control List (ECL) just a day prior to the incident. He emphasized that the decision to block Swati’s departure was a direct violation of the court’s directive.
The petition calls for the court to hold accountable those officials who obstructed Swati’s travel, asserting that such interference compromises judicial authority. The case is anticipated to be reviewed shortly as legal procedures proceed.
