ISLAMABAD: NEPRA has announced a reduction in electricity prices in the monthly and quarterly adjustments. The authority approved a decrease of 1.89 rupees per unit in the quarterly adjustment, and the decision has been forwarded to the federal government for approval.
According to the decision, this reduction is applicable for the quarterly adjustment from April to June 2025. The decrease will benefit all distribution companies’ consumers, including K-Electric. NEPRA stated that the reduction in electricity prices will apply for the three months from August to October 2025, providing relief of approximately 5.58 billion rupees to consumers.
However, the decrease will not apply to lifeline and prepaid consumers. Power distribution companies had requested a reduction in the quarterly adjustment, and NEPRA held a hearing regarding this request on August 4.
Additionally, NEPRA has also reduced electricity prices in the monthly adjustment for the rest of the country, excluding Karachi. The reduction in the monthly adjustment amounts to 78 paise per unit, and a notification has been issued accordingly. This reduction is applicable for June 2025’s monthly adjustment, and consumers will see the relief in their August bills. The decrease will not apply to K-Electric consumers.
