LAHORE: Authorities have detained another Aleema Khan’s son and Nephew of PTI founder Imran Khan amidst ongoing investigations into the May 9 riots. The SSP Investigation confirmed the arrest but withheld specific details, stating the case remains under inquiry.
This development follows the recent arrest of Shahrez Khan, Imran’s nephew, in connection with the attack on Jinnah House during the May 9 protests. The riots erupted after Imran Khan’s arrest in a corruption case earlier this year, leading to widespread violence including attacks on military installations and government properties.
PTI’s official channels claimed that after Shahrez, Aleema Khan’s other son, Shershah, was also abducted. Earlier on Friday, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore approved an eight-day physical remand for Shahrez Khan in relation to the Jinnah House attack case. The court’s decision was announced after a hearing where the defense challenged the evidence against him, arguing his innocence and questioning the timing of his arrest.
Defense lawyer Salman Akram Raja highlighted that Shahrez had been detained two years after the incident and noted that his client’s mother, Aleema Khan, had previously been released from related charges. The police insisted Shahrez was involved in the attack, with Deputy Superintendent of Police Asif Javed presenting case records linking him to the violence.
Shahrez was taken into custody on Thursday, with reports indicating he was forcibly taken from his Lahore home by unidentified armed men. PTI criticized the action, labeling it an “abduction,” and claimed the family was subjected to torture and harassment during the raid. The May 9 riots marked one of the most violent episodes in recent Pakistan history, with supporters of PTI targeting military and government premises in protest of Imran Khan’s detention.
