ISLAMABAD: As Pakistan marks Defence Day on September 6, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif vowed to strengthen the country’s military capabilities and confront all foreign-backed threats with resolve and determination.
Prime Minister paid tribute to the nation’s armed forces for their historic resistance during the 1965 war, calling it a testament to the unshakable will of the people and military unity.
“Defence Day reminds us of the courage, solidarity, and unyielding spirit displayed by the Pakistani nation and its armed forces,” the Prime Minister said in his official message. “The events of 1965 proved that Pakistan stands strong in the face of aggression, fully capable of defending its sovereignty.”
He praised the continued valor of Pakistan’s armed forces — army, navy, and air force — for upholding the legacy of resilience, especially under the command of Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir. “Our defenders have written a new chapter of pride by neutralizing threats and asserting Pakistan’s resolve,” he noted.
Emphasizing future readiness, PM Sharif reiterated his administration’s commitment to upgrading Pakistan’s defence infrastructure to effectively respond to evolving threats, particularly foreign-sponsored terrorism and internal proxies. He also underscored unwavering support for the people of Kashmir, condemning India’s continued occupation of the region.
