New York: The United Nations Security Council has condemned the Israeli attack on the Qatari capital Doha.
The emergency meeting of the UNSC was held in New York.The meeting had been requested by Pakistan, Algeria and Somalia.
In a press statement issued by the UNSC President Sangjin Kim, the members of the council underscored the importance of de-escalation and expressed their solidarity with Qatar.
The UNSC’s members underlined their support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Qatar, and recalled their support for the vital role that the country plays in mediation efforts in the region amid war in the Gaza.
They reiterated the importance of the ongoing diplomatic efforts of Qatar, alongside Egypt and the United States, and called for the parties to seize the opportunity for peace.
[L/O] In his address to the United Nations Security Council, Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani said Doha would continue its humanitarian and diplomatic efforts, but would not tolerate further breaches of its security and sovereignty.
[L/O] In her remarks, UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo described Qatar as a valued partner in advancing peacemaking and expressed concern over Israel’s recklessness.
