Punjab floods claim 97 lives, affect 4.49 million people: PDMA

LAHORE: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a detailed report highlighting the devastating impact of floods across Punjab, 97 people were killed with millions affected and relief operations underway.

According to the PDMA report, widespread flooding has affected 4,489 villages across Punjab, impacting more than 4.49 million people, according to the latest report from

The report stated that 672 villages along the Sutlej River and 1,482 along the Ravi River were inundated.

Around 2.45 million people have been shifted to safe locations, while 396 relief camps, 490 medical camps, and 405 veterinary camps have been set up in affected districts.

The floods also forced the relocation of more than 1.9 million livestock. Meanwhile, Mangla Dam has reached 92% of its capacity, while Tarbela Dam is completely filled.

On the Indian side, Bhakra Dam is 90% full, Pong 99%, and Thein 97%, the report added.

The disaster has claimed 97 lives in Punjab so far. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to begin relief and compensation efforts for the victims.
