Attention: Petrol prices may increase from October 1

ISLAMABAD: The federal government is anticipated to authorize a notable increase in petroleum prices, which will take effect on October 1. Sources indicate that the price adjustments will range from Rs 1.97 to Rs 4.65 per litre.

The oil industry has completed its calculations, proposing an increase of Rs 1.97 per litre for petrol and Rs 2.48 per litre for high-speed diesel (HSD). Additionally, light diesel oil (LDO) may experience a rise of Rs 1.76 per litre, while kerosene oil is projected to face the most substantial increase of Rs 4.65 per litre.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) is preparing to forward the price summary to the Ministry of Finance via the Petroleum Division. A formal announcement from the finance ministry is expected to follow upon the completion of the necessary approvals.

Earlier, on September 16, the government disclosed new petroleum pricing for the ensuing 15 days. The price of petrol was maintained at Rs 264.61 per litre, while high-speed diesel saw an increase of Rs 2.78 per litre, bringing its new price to Rs 272.77. These revised rates are effective immediately and will remain applicable until the end of September. Officials have stated that these adjustments are part of the routine review process for fuel prices, which are influenced by international market trends and currency exchange rate fluctuations.
