SHIKARPUR: A late-night traffic tragedy struck the Kundan Chourangi area of Shikarpur, where a mini-truck veered off the road and plowed into people sleeping along the roadside, leaving eight dead and five others injured.
The incident occurred when a mini-truck, reportedly carrying onions and potatoes, lost control after colliding with an electric pole. The vehicle skidded off course and crushed several individuals who were resting on the roadside at the time.
Among the deceased were five children, according to rescue officials. All eight victims died on the spot, while five others sustained critical injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Rescue teams and local police arrived promptly at the scene. Authorities have impounded the truck involved in the accident, though the driver fled immediately after the incident and remains at large.
An investigation is underway as police search for the driver and assess the circumstances leading to the fatal mishap. The accident has sparked grief and anger among residents, who have raised concerns about road safety and enforcement.
