New Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s past is anti-state: Khawaja Asif

WEB DESK: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has remarked that the newly appointed Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has exhibited anti-state tendencies in the past, and it remains to be seen how he conducts himself in his new role.

He noted that only time will determine whether the Chief Minister adopts a pro-Pakistan stance or continues with a narrow-minded approach.

Turning his focus to Afghanistan, Asif expressed deep concern over the potential deterioration of relations between the two nations. He reiterated Pakistan’s desire for improved ties but urged Afghanistan to address Pakistan’s concerns. He highlighted the necessity of making arrangements for the respectful repatriation of refugees and taking firm measures against illegal immigration from Afghanistan.

Reflecting on historical relations, he mentioned that at the time of Pakistan’s independence in 1947, Afghanistan had strong ties with India, which continue to this day. He acknowledged every state’s right to maintain its relations but stressed that it was disheartening to see terrorism carried out in Pakistan from Afghan soil. He called for mutual respect for territorial sovereignty, urging both nations to uphold each other’s dignity.

The minister issued a stern warning, stating that relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan could further deteriorate if the ongoing cycle of violence, attacks, and killings persists.
