President Zardari to Represent Pakistan at Global Social Development Summit in Doha

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari will participate in the Second World Summit for Social Development, set to begin in Doha on Tuesday under the auspices of the United Nations General Assembly.

The three-day summit will convene world leaders and policymakers to explore strategies for enhancing social inclusion, generating decent employment, and expanding social safety nets.

During his visit, President Zardari is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with global and regional leaders, including Qatari leadership, as well as heads of major international and multilateral organisations.

In his address, the President will highlight Pakistan’s dedication to inclusive and sustainable growth, emphasizing the pivotal role of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) in combating poverty and supporting vulnerable communities.

Pakistan will also present its proposal for a Doha-aligned Social Protection and Jobs Compact (2026–2028), which seeks to extend social protection to informal workers, persons with disabilities, and children while fostering green and decent employment opportunities. The initiative reflects Pakistan’s commitment to the Doha Political Declaration and the broader global agenda on social protection and financing for development.

President Zardari will reaffirm Islamabad’s readiness to collaborate with international partners and financial institutions to mobilize resources through innovative mechanisms such as the SDG Stimulus, debt-for-social or climate swaps, and South-South cooperation under China’s Global Development Initiative.

He will further stress Pakistan’s determination to implement the outcomes of the Doha Summit into tangible actions that strengthen social protection systems and promote sustainable, inclusive economic progress.
