RAWALPINDI: Aleema Khan, the sister of jailed PTI founder Imran Khan, appeared in court following the issuance of 11 non-bailable arrest warrants against her.
Her appearance was tied to a case involving the protests held on November 26. Accompanying her were her lawyer, Faisal Malik, and Special Prosecutor Zaheer Shah, along with their respective legal teams. Additionally, ten other accused individuals and all five witnesses attended the hearing.
The session was overseen by Judge Amjad Ali Shah of the Rawalpindi Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC). Aleema Khan contested the inclusion of Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) in her case, asserting that it was unjustly applied.
She appealed for the cancellation of her arrest warrants and sought to unfreeze her bank accounts. The court agreed to hear her plea concerning the removal of Section 7 ATA and notified the state counsel to present arguments on November 26. Furthermore, it suspended the state’s move to confiscate her property.
The proceedings lasted over an hour and were marked by heated exchanges. The state prosecutor strongly opposed the rescission of her warrants and the restoration of her accounts. Nevertheless, the court quashed all existing arrest warrants against her, mandated her attendance at the next hearing, and ordered the presence of all five witnesses for that session.
The case, filed at the Sadiqabad Police Station, charges Aleema Khan with inciting supporters to engage in violent protests, committing arson, and obstructing government duties during the demonstration on November 26.
