World Bank approves $400 million for Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The World Bank has announced a $400 million funding package for Pakistan under the Punjab Inclusive Cities Program.

This funding aims to provide 4.5 million people across 16 cities in Punjab with access to clean drinking water, improved sanitation, and waste management services.

Additionally, around 2 million residents are set to benefit from enhanced solid waste collection and overall cleanliness systems.

The program also seeks to significantly address issues such as child stunting and waterborne diseases. Furthermore, it aims to empower local government institutions by boosting their revenue-generating capacities and reinforcing their institutional independence.

The World Bank highlighted that this initiative will also strengthen the resilience of Punjab’s cities to better manage future challenges related to floods and droughts.
