ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission has officially declared Pakistan Muslim League-N leader Abid Sher Ali as a senator.

He secured the position unopposed on December 8 after the withdrawal of two other contenders, Ahsan Afzal Khan and Abdul Jabbar, from the race. Notably, no member of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf submitted nomination papers for this seat.

During the process, the Chief Election Commissioner instructed Abid Sher Ali to refrain from making statements, emphasizing concerns that the secrecy of the vote might have been compromised.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Abid Sher Ali on his uncontested success and extended his best wishes for future endeavors. This Senate vacancy arose following the passing of PML-N Senator Irfan Siddiqui.
