ECP postpones local government elections in Quetta

QUETTA: Following an order from the Federal Constitutional Court, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has halted the upcoming local government elections in Quetta district, Balochistan, which were scheduled for December 28, 2025.

An official ECP statement clarified that this decision is in response to the court’s directive issued on December 24, 2025, concerning Constitutional Petition (C.P.L.A No. 153/2025), filed by Qadir Shah s/o Suliman Shah against the Election Commission.

The notification further indicated that all election preparations, which were previously announced on November 3, 2025, for the Quetta local government polls, are now suspended with immediate effect. The ECP confirmed that this suspension will remain in place until the relevant authority issues new instructions.
