Pakistan urges India to uphold the Indus Waters Treaty

ISLAMABAD: Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi urged India to uphold the Indus Waters Treaty during a weekly media briefing. The Pakistani Indus Water commissioner has sent inquiries to his Indian counterpart, seeking responses from India.

Andrabi highlighted ongoing human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir by India, noting that the United Nations has flagged the issue. He affirmed Pakistan’s commitment to raising the Kashmir matter on global platforms.

He acknowledged the accuracy of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s statement on Pakistan-India mediation and confirmed the exchange of nuclear lists between Islamabad and Delhi. Additionally, both nations shared prisoners’ lists, with Pakistan handing over details for 257 Indian detainees.

Pakistan condemned Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, reaffirming support for Somalia’s sovereignty. Andrabi also announced upcoming strategic talks between Pakistan and China in Beijing on January 4, led by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar.

On Afghanistan, Andrabi reported the safe return of 291 Pakistanis and 15 students following coordination efforts since border closures.
