ISLAMABAD: A significant earthquake was experienced across multiple regions of Pakistan, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and neighboring areas. The Pakistan Meteorological Department’s (PMD) National Seismic Monitoring Centre confirmed the quake measured 5.8 on the Richter scale.
The tremors were also felt in Swat, Malakand, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, and nearby locations. Residents in Muzaffarabad, the Neelum Valley, and Leepa Valley reported feeling the shaking, prompting many to evacuate their homes while praying.
The Seismological Centre reported that the earthquake’s epicenter was located in northern Tajikistan, at a depth of approximately 159 kilometers. At this time, no reports of casualties or structural damage have been received.
In a related event, earlier in December 2025, Karachi experienced tremors caused by a 5.2 magnitude quake at a depth of 12 kilometers. The tremors were felt throughout the city at around 12:51 a.m.
Residents in areas such as SITE, Saddar, Clifton, DHA Phase 8, and PECHS reported feeling the quake. People in PECHS, Shah Faisal Colony, Liaquatabad, and Buffer Zone also experienced the tremors, with many describing the shaking as particularly intense in Liaquatabad.
