ISLAMABAD: Human rights advocate and lawyer Imaan Mazari, daughter of former PTI leader Shireen Mazari, along with her husband Hadi Ali Chatha, was taken into custody on Friday.
The arrest happened as the couple was traveling from Islamabad High Court to District Court, near Serena Chowk. At the time, they were accompanied by a considerable number of legal professionals.
Imaan and Hadi, both entangled in a controversial tweets case, had previously declared their unwavering commitment to their position. While addressing the media, they emphasized their determination to remain steadfast, even if it led to their imprisonment.
Earlier, the Islamabad District and Sessions Court had summoned Imaan and Hadi to appear in person regarding the case.
In the same matter, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had recently nullified the trial court’s order that prevented their arrest. In its written verdict, the IHC also allowed a four-day period for cross-examining witnesses. However, failure to appear before the trial court within this timeframe would invalidate this relief.
The District and Sessions Court Islamabad had explicitly directed Imaan Mazari-Hazir and Hadi Ali Chatha to ensure personal attendance on Friday in connection with the controversial tweets case.
