WEB DESK: A British Airways aircraft safely completed its journey to London on Monday following a near-miss incident shortly after takeoff from Las Vegas, where one of its main landing gear wheels detached.
The Airbus A350-1000, operating flight BA274, experienced the wheel coming loose just minutes after departing from Harry Reid International Airport. The event was captured on video, showing the wheel falling back onto the runway as the landing gear retracted, accompanied by sparks from the gear just moments before the wheel separated.
Both British Airways and Las Vegas airport officials confirmed that there were no injuries among passengers, crew, or individuals on the ground. The aircraft’s tire was recovered from the runway, with no reported damage to nearby property.
A British Airways spokesperson stated, “Passenger safety remains our top priority, and we are cooperating fully with authorities as they investigate the incident.”
The event has raised safety concerns and has been reported to relevant aviation safety agencies, including the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), for further review.
