T20 world cup 2026; Govt allows Pakistan to play against India on Feb 15

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has officially endorsed Pakistan’s participation in the highly anticipated ICC Men’s T20 World Cup match against India, putting an end to the uncertainty surrounding the fixture.

The government confirmed that the Pakistan-India showdown will go ahead as planned on February 15, during the T20 World Cup.

According to a statement shared on social media, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi briefed the Prime Minister on the outcomes of high-level discussions involving representatives from the PCB, the International Cricket Council (ICC), and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

The review also included official requests made by the BCB to the PCB, alongside consultations with Sri Lanka, the UAE, and other cricketing nations. These deliberations centered on addressing logistical and other challenges Pakistan had been facing in preparation for the tournament.

Acknowledging BCB President Aminul Islam’s supportive remarks, the Government of Pakistan commended Bangladesh’s goodwill and reiterated Pakistan’s solidarity with its long-standing ally.

Following extensive dialogue with multiple stakeholders, the government has instructed Pakistan’s national cricket team to take part in the scheduled match against India, emphasizing its commitment to upholding the spirit of cricket, promoting the continuity of international tournaments, and ensuring fair play among all participating nations.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, echoing the sentiments of the entire nation, extended hearty wishes to the Pakistan cricket team. He expressed confidence that they would showcase dedication, competitive spirit, and unwavering pride while representing the country on the global stage.
