ISLAMABAD: Authorities in Abu Dhabi have detained 45 people, including several foreign nationals, for allegedly recording sensitive locations and sharing misleading information online during ongoing Iranian missile attacks in the Gulf region.
In a statement, Abu Dhabi Police said the suspects filmed areas linked to recent security incidents and posted the footage on social media. Officials warned that such actions could endanger public safety and interfere with security operations.
Police further accused the detainees of spreading false and exaggerated information that could cause panic and fuel rumours among residents.
Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Defence reported that the country’s air defence systems have intercepted hundreds of projectiles since the start of what it described as Iranian aggression. According to the ministry, forces have shot down 285 ballistic missiles, 15 cruise missiles, and more than 1,500 drones.
The ministry stressed that the United Arab Emirates remains prepared to respond decisively to any threat against its security while continuing efforts to safeguard national stability. The arrests come as tensions continue to rise in the Middle East amid escalating hostilities involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.
After nearly two weeks of fighting, the death toll has climbed to roughly 2,000 people, with most casualties reported in Iran.
