ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has officially announced the disqualification of PTI Senator Murad Saeed, leading to the vacancy of his Senate seat representing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

This action follows a verdict by an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), which previously sentenced Saeed to 10 years in prison. Based on this conviction, the ECP invoked Article 63(1)(h) of the Constitution to declare him ineligible for legislative office.

The official notification states that Murad Saeed is disqualified from serving as a senator, and his seat has now been declared vacant. The decision is rooted in the legal ruling, which found him guilty and resulted in his imprisonment. According to constitutional law, individuals convicted of certain serious charges are barred from holding public office.

It is expected that Murad Saeed and his party will respond legally and politically in the coming days.

Earlier, on February 15, 2026, Saeed, who had been in hiding for several months, submitted his resignation from the Senate. He forwarded his resignation letter to PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan. Along with his resignation, he called on the party leadership to resign from both the Senate and the National Assembly as a form of protest.

Meanwhile, the Pakistani government announced plans to transfer PTI leader Imran Khan, who is currently incarcerated, to a hospital for medical treatment. Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry stated on Saturday, February 14, 2026, that a medical board would be established to oversee Khan’s healthcare. The government also arranged for Khan to communicate with his sons via phone.

Tariq Fazal emphasized that health issues should not be politicized and urged PTI to avoid spreading what he called unfounded propaganda or political point-scoring. He reiterated that providing proper medical facilities for prisoners is a fundamental responsibility of the state.

He also called for national unity and patience, stressing that the health of the former prime minister is a matter of national concern, and should not be turned into a political issue.
