Sindh govt announces no increase in public transport fares

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah assured on Sunday that public transport fares will remain unchanged and will stay at the levels prior to February 28.

During a press conference with transport representatives, CM Shah stated that the government will bear the additional fuel costs, and each registered bus will receive a subsidy of Rs. 100,000 through the federal government.

He clarified that this subsidy is not sourced from the NFC fund. “While providing relief solely for government transport fares was an option, maintaining the fares across all buses is a more effective solution,” he explained.

Shah highlighted the serious consequences of ongoing conflicts, emphasizing the importance of stability. He also praised the availability of petrol at Pakistani pumps, contrasting it with shortages faced in other countries.

The chief minister mentioned that transport operators have agreed to a scheme to keep fares steady. “Transporters have consented to participate in this initiative,” he confirmed.

Furthermore, he assured that transporters will be compensated for increased diesel prices, ensuring that fares for buses, minibuses, coasters, and vans will not rise. “The fares charged before February 28 will remain in effect,” he concluded.
