Pakistan Navy executes successful search, rescue mission in North Arabian Sea

KARACHI: Demonstrating swift humanitarian action, the Pakistan Navy successfully carried out a rescue operation, saving 18 crew members including nationals from China, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Indonesia after receiving an emergency distress call from the Merchant Vessel (MV) GOLD AUTUMN. The vessel was operating approximately 200 nautical miles (around 370 km) off Pakistan’s coastline in the North Arabian Sea.

Following the alert, the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) activated its Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) and quickly mobilized response efforts. In response, Pakistan Navy Ship HUNAIN, patrolling in the designated area, was assigned to assist the distressed vessel.

The crew of PNS HUNAIN launched an active search and rescue operation, showcasing professionalism and operational proficiency. The Navy’s specialized team provided medical aid, supported firefighting activities, evaluated the vessel’s damage, and successfully rescued the crew members. The evacuated personnel were safely transported to Karachi for medical treatment and will be repatriated to their home countries.

This humanitarian mission, carried out at considerable distance from Pakistan’s coast, underscores the Pakistan Navy’s steadfast dedication and readiness to respond promptly to maritime emergencies within its Area of Responsibility. The operation exemplifies Pakistan Navy’s commitment to safeguarding maritime lives and assets through proactive and effective rescue efforts.
